UPDATES FROM DANNY

 May 7, 2008

Hello everyone, Salut!

It’s time you received an update on what is happening in my life.  You all have been so kind and generous in your thoughts and prayers, so you deserve to know what you have brought to me.

Dante Lewis, the one who shot me when he tried to rob the ice cream truck, went on trial February 11, 2008.  My fiancée, Irina was brought to the U.S. as a “Parole of Interest” in order that should could testify at the trial also.  You might remember that I was talking with Irina on my Bluetooth when I was shot, so she heard everything.  Dante Lewis was found guilty on six counts, including attempted murder and attempted robbery.  On April 1 he was sentenced to 30 years.  Thankfully he will be unable to hurt anyone again.

With the worry of the trial behind me, I then faced the problem that the Workman’s Comp insurance company declared they would not pay for my medical bills, claiming it was a “random act of violence.”  Through the pro bono efforts of Attorney Craig Davis, the insurance company finally has agreed that it is a Workman’s Comp case and they will pay the medical bills from all of those who saved my life, doctors and hospital.  I am very grateful to Attorney Davis and to all of you who have continued to keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

And once again I am asking for your thoughts and prayers as I am faced with yet another problem.  As you know, I was going to be married in Romania on November 10 of last year to my long-time partner, Irina.  I spent our wedding day in the hospital fighting for my life.  We have now applied to the U.S. for a tourist visa for Irina so that she can come to the U.S. , marry with me, take a short honeymoon and return to Romania, where I will again join her later.  The U.S. Embassy in Romania has refused a visa for her, declaring that she won’t return to Romania.  Irina came to the U.S. to testify with me against this dangerous man who shot me so that he would not hurt another U.S. Citizen, and she returned because she gave her word that she would.  In return, the U.S. has denied her the ability to come and marry me.

Thank you for continuing to pray for me, and now I ask that you pray even harder that somehow Irina will be released to come to the U.S. to get married, while I wait for my own status here to change.
